In Canada and many of the provinces, sources of funding exist to help families afford the purchase of any accessible vehicle, to offset the costs of converting an existing vehicle and/or to make home renovations (such as lifts, ramps, flooring upgrades or door-widening). Province of Ontario
Ontario Healthy Homes Renovation Tax Credit
The Ontario Provincial Government has introduced a new tax credit incentive designed to support the “Age in Place” strategy of the Federal and Provincial Governments across Canada.
The tax credit is available to all Ontarians who are 65 or older and/or have a family 65 or older living with them. The tax credit is based on a percentage of your eligible spend on home modification renovations and equipment up to $1,500 on a maximum qualifying amount of $10,000 per year.

Presidents Choice Children’s Charity – President’s Choice Children’s Charity provides grants to families to assist with the costs of equipment, home capital, respite care, developmental and physical therapy and accessible vehicles.
Provincial Foundations and Charities
Alberta
Easter Seals Alberta – The Equipment and Support Services Program provides equipment through our loan pool program for people who qualify physically and financially. This equipment is truly life changing for the children, adults and seniors in our community. Some had serious illnesses like muscular dystrophy since childhood while others have had serious accidents or illnesses as adults.
British Columbia
Giving In Action – One time grants available to any BC families with children with special needs up to 19 years of age.
Easter Seals British Columbia – Each year, the Patient Care Grants Program provides financial assistance to many families of children with special needs in BC, the Yukon and the Northwest Territories.
Manitoba
Society for Manitobans with Disabilities – Through the SMD Assistive Technology Support Program eligible applicants may be funded for up to 20% of the actual cost of their assistive technology product purchase (up to a maximum of $2500 per fiscal year).
Newfoundland and Labrador
Easter Seals Newfoundland and Labrador – Requests for financial assistance for costs related to the purchase of mobility equipment, van lifts, computer-aided speech devices, etc. are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Easter Seals provides financial assistance when possible and appropriate. We are also able to help families identify additional sources of assistance that may be available to them.
Ontario
Ontario March of Dimes’ Home and Vehicle Modification® Program provides funding for basic home and/or vehicle modifications. The program is intended to assist permanent Ontario residents with a substantial impairment expected to last one year or more. As there is limited funding, we encourage Applicants to first access any other sources of available public or private funding before applying to this program. Consumers who meet program criteria can apply for grant funding:
- Up to $15,000 lifetime maximum for home modifications
- Up to $15,000 every ten years for vehicle modifications
Easter Seals Ontario – Direct financial assistance to individual families is the primary focus of Easter Seals Ontario. Easter Seals Ontario acts as a third party funder and as such has no role in prescribing, recommending equipment, selecting a vendor/contractor or in the relationship between the parent and vendor.
